Mancs go five points clear

Man United‘s 3-0 win in their game-in-hand against Fulham on Wednesday night means they have moved five points clear of Liverpool in the race for the Premier League title.

And the emphatic scoreline means the gap is effectively six points due to their superior goal difference of nine more than Liverpool.

Scholes, Berbatov and a returning Rooney scored the goals as the title holders kept an incredible 13th consecutive clean sheet in the league – the last time they conceded was against Arsenal on November 8th.

They host Blackburn on Saturday evening, meaning a win there can leave Liverpool eight points behind going into Sunday’s home match with Mark Hughes’ Manchester City, and a return to Anfield for Craig Bellamy.

United’s impressive form makes depressing reading for the rest of the title contenders, with the Old Trafford side looking more and more likely to match Liverpool’s record 18 league titles this season.

If Liverpool are to stop United and maintain their record of most English league titles, they must surely win at Old Trafford when the two sides meet on March 14th – and, of course, have another impressive end to the campaign.
