Reds wait on Gerrard

Liverpool will leave it late to determine if Steven Gerrard is fit enough to be included in the squad that travels to the Spanish capital to face Real Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

Gerrard has been out of action for three weeks after pulling up with a hamstring injury in the Reds’ 1-0 defeat to Merseyside rivals Everton in the FA Cup.

It was first though that Gerrard wouldn’t be back until around 10th of March, when Real Madrid return to Anfield for the crunch second leg of the tie.

But he has made improvements and could fly to Spain with the squad tomorrow morning. Reds boss Rafa Benitez says, “Gerrard may be fit for Wednesday. He has to train on Monday and then we will let the doctor decide.

“It’s not an easy decision but he’s very close and hopefully he’ll be okay.”

Real Madrid vs Liverpool on Wednesday, 25th February kicks off at 7.45pm.
