Gerrard heaps praise on ‘œmagic’ Torres

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has deemed teammate Fernando Torres the best striker in the world, after the Spaniard helped the Reds to a 4-1 emphatic victory over Man United on Saturday.

Torres, arguably man of the match, played a blinder, netting Liverpool’s equalise after they had fallen behind early on to a Cristiano Ronaldo penalty.

It was Torres’ 9th league goal this season in just 15 appearances, and Gerrard believes the Reds have missed him this season.

“He is magic,” said Gerrard. “I know I am biased but I don’t think anyone will argue with me when I say he is the best striker in the world. If we keep him fit until the end of the season then it’ll be an exciting run.

“It’s been frustrating not having him out there. I believe if we’d had him fit for more games we’d be closer to, if not ahead of, United.”
