Masch calls for more heroics

Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano has called upon his teammates to produce a performance to match that of Tuesday night when they take on league leaders Manchester United this weekend.

After demolishing Spanish giants Real Madrid 4-0 at Anfield in the Champions League, the Reds’ attentions turn to beating their arch rivals at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.

And Mascherano knows that a repeat performance to that of Tuesday night will give Rafa Benitez’s men the three points they so desperately want to steal from Alex Ferguson’s men.

He told the club’s official web site, “We know it will be difficult to play at Old Trafford but we have to try and play as we did on Tuesday night.

“If we play like this I think we can beat anybody.

“It was a good game for us. From the beginning we were on top of them. The key was to press high – to not let them play. We controlled the game and the result was fantastic.

“It is not easy to beat Real Madrid in the last 16, especially in the way we did it. Liverpool definitely deserve to be in the quarter-finals.

“We are happy and can celebrate – but the next morning you have to start thinking about Manchester United.”

Manchester United vs Liverpool kicks off at 12:45pm on Saturday, 14th March.
