Gerrard fitness in doubt

The fitness of Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has been cast into doubt ahead of this weekend’s Premier League clash at home to Blackburn Rovers and next Tuesday’s Champions League quarter-final second leg against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Gerrard appeared tired and fatigued during Wednesday’s 1-3 defeat to Chelsea and is now undergoing tests on his fitness after a few weeks of important, constant football.

Gerrard played a big part in England’s fortunes during the international break and has been involved in crucial league games for the Reds, accumulating in tiredness.

Reports suggest he could be set to miss this weekend’s game against Rovers at Anfield (kick-off 12.45pm). The Reds must win to maintain the pressure on league leaders Manchester Utd, who play Sunderland away, also on Saturday (kick-off 3pm).
