Match Preview: Fulham (a)

After what seems like one of the longest international breaks in memory, no doubt due to the fact we were absolutely flying before the break, Liverpool return to Premier League action at Craven Cottage on Saturday evening (5:30pm kick off).

Before the break the Reds had seen off Man United and Aston Villa in succession, scoring 9 goals in the process.

Fulham, meanwhile, had just defeated the current champions, 2-0 at the Cottage, and Rafa Benitez’s side will be aiming not to fall where Ferguson’s men did.

Those results have thrown the title race back open, and with United not playing until Sunday – at home to Villa – Liverpool have the opportunity to go top of the table, albeit possibly only for a short period.

Rafa Benitez has no major injury worries, thankfully, after international duty was kind for the first time this season. The only doubts surround squad players Sami Hyypia and Yossi Benayoun. Although, the fact midfielder Javier Mascherano’s Argentina played at the high altitude in Bolivia on Wednesday night and the time difference for him arriving back may mean he won’t be risked. However, the fact he is suspended for the first leg of the Chelsea quarter final on Wednesday means he may be used and rest after.

This fixture last season saw Liverpool 2-0 victors courtesy of goals from two players no longer at the club; Peter Crouch and Jermaine Pennant.

Earlier this season, Roy Hodgson’s side frustrated the Anfield faithful when they secured a goalless draw. Having beat United last time out, the London club will be looking to add another twist in the title race.

The match is live on Setanta, 5:30pm kick off.
