Home draws cost us ‘“ Xabi

Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso has been left ruing points dropped at home after the Reds narrowly missed out on the Premier League title to arch rivals Manchester United.

The Reds enjoyed an impressive season, collecting 83 points on the way ‘“ which they can extend to 86 in Sunday’s final game of the season at home to Spurs.

Rafa Benitez’s men only lost two league games all season, and also beat title rivals Manchester United and Chelsea both home and away, but Alonso knows that the games they have drawn have ultimately cost Anfield the title.

He told Sky Sports, “We have drawn too many games at home. Considering the record we have had away from home, we have probably dropped too many points at Anfield and because of that Man United are ahead of us.

“In the first half of the season we drew a few games that we probably shouldn’t have and those games, if you want to win the league, you can’t afford to draw them.

“Because of that we are now in this position. It could have been better but all teams can say ‘If only we had done this different’.”
