Shearer out for the upset

Newcastle Utd boss Alan Shearer believes his players are in good enough spirit to run out and cause an upset when they meet Liverpool at Anfield this Sunday.

The two sides meet with just four Premier League games remaining. The Reds chasing the Premier League title, whilst The Magpies are fighting for survival at the other end of the table.

Earlier in the season, Liverpool ran out 1-5 winners when the two sides met at St James’ Park.

But caretaker manager Shearer says although everyone is writing his side off, he hopes to use this Sunday to silence the critics.

He told the media ‘œI must stick to my beliefs and I’m doing that.

‘œNot many people will give us a chance at Liverpool but that does not affect me. Upsets have been caused and I will be telling the players that.

‘œThey have a very good side with world-class players and an amazing manager, but I want to go to Anfield and get something.

‘œWe go there in good spirits after a good week of training. There is belief among the players and we will be going there to give it a good go.’

Liverpool vs Newcastle gets underway at 1.30pm on Sunday afternoon and it’s live on Setanta Sports.
