Skrtel & El Zhar fly home injured

Liverpool’s Martin Skrtel and Nabil El Zahr have returned to Merseyside after picking up injuries in yesterday’s 1-1 draw with Thailand in Bangkok.

Both second half substitutes were taken off just minutes after entering the game with Skrtel pulling up with a hamstring injury and El Zhar with damage to knee ligaments.

The players will return to Liverpool and undergo medical assessments to determine the full extent of their injuries.

After yesterday’s game, Reds boss Rafa Benitez appeared anxious about both players’ injuries.

He said, “They were not the best conditions here today and the worst thing was to lose Skrtel and El Zhar.

“The idea of the game was to improve match fitness, so to lose two players is bad news.”
