Kuyt impressed by Aquilani signing

Liverpool attacker Dirk Kuyt says the imminent arrival of Italian midfielder Alberto Aquilani at Anfield could be the difference in the Reds’ success this season.

The 25-year-old Roma player is expected to complete an £18million move to Liverpool later today and Kuyt, who captained the Reds in Wednesday’s 2-0 victory over FC Lyn in Oslo, expects great things from the new signing.

He said, ‘œI was just focused on the game but if it’s correct that he is signing and the deal happens then it’s good because we will be signing a new player with a lot of quality,.

‘œXabi is a very good player but these kind of things happen in football.

‘œTeams are changing all the time. Xabi played very well for Liverpool but that’s all history now and we have to move on.

‘œWe have to look forward. That’s what Xabi is doing with Real Madrid and we have to do the same.

‘œWe have a lot of good players still here and we are all determined to go one better in the league after coming so close to winning the title last season.’

The Reds face Atletico Madrid in their final pre-season friendly at Anfield tomorrow afternoon before the new season gets underway next Sunday (August 16th).
