Liverpool’s central defensive options

As Liverpool look ahead to their vital Premier League encounter with Bolton Wanderers this Saturday, we’re asking you who will partner Jamie Carragher in central defence.

Rafa Benitez has had a bit of a nightmare start to the season as regards central defence selection with injuries to Carragher, Martin Skrtel and Daniel Agger.

Whilst Agger remains sidelined for a few more weeks following back surgery, Benitez may have three options to choose from for Carragher’s partner in central defence this weekend.

Martin Skrtel played the full 90 minutes against Aston Villa on Monday night despite suffering from a cracked jaw only last week. The Slovakian international looked uncomfortable at times though.

New signing Sotirios Kyrgiakos could be in line for his debut with the Liverpool Echo yesterday saying he will put on the Reds shirt for the first time against Bolton.

Or should Rafa opt for inexperienced, but promising young Spanish defender Daniel Ayala, who played in the opening day defeat to Tottenham and 4-0 victory over Stoke.
