Rumour Mill: Tuncay, Distin latest

Liverpool could be set to renew their interest in Middlesborough striker Tuncay as they look to bolster their attacking options.

With two weeks of the transfer window remaining, Reds boss Rafa Benitez will be assesing his options up front with Fernando Torres the only experienced forward at the club.

Tuncay was linked with a move to Anfield earlier in the summer, but was speculation that never came to fruition.http://thisisanfield.com/wp-admin/post.php?action=edit&post=9845

Now reports suggest Benitez is ready to make a bid for the 27-year-old to fit in as back-up to Fernando Torres alongside Andriy Voronin and David Ngog.

Boro boss Gareth Southgate admitted today that he doesn’t expect the Turkish international to stay at the Riverside beyond the end of the month.

“We haven’t had any bids for him but while we have him, I want to make the best use of him,” he told BBC Tees.

“Unfortunately we don’t expect to have Tuncay beyond the end of this month.”

Tuncay scored 15 goals in 67 games for Middlesborough before they were relegated to the Championship in May this year.

Reported Liverpool target Sylvain Distin has been given the captain’s armband by Portsmouth boss Paul Hart.

It is thought Distin is a potential transfer target of Aston Villa and Manchester City also, but Hart has handed the French defender the honour of Portsmouth captain in a bid to keep him at Fratton Park.

‘Sylvain will be leading the team out. You only had to watch him from February through to the end of the season to realise why,” said Hart.
