Benitez set for Babel showdown talks

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez says that he will sit down with Ryan Babel soon to discuss the winger’s future after recent comments from the winger that suggested he could be looking for a move away from Anfield.

Unhappy with lack of first team action, Babel told a Dutch newspaper last week that he would be tempted by a January transfer window move back to his former club Ajax.

Babel is hoping to be called up to the Holland squad in time for next summer’s World Cup in South Africa, with Dutch manager Bert Van Marwijk recently confirming Babel would need to be playing more regularly to be re-called to the squad.

Benitez told Sky Sports News today, “I will talk to Ryan. But I do not want him going on loan, he needs to work and fight for his place here.”

Earlier this week Benitez challenged both Babel and Albert Riera to do their talking on the pitch and prove why they both deserve first team places.
