Liverpool Reserves 3 – 1 Bolton Reserves

Liverpool’s Reserves team kicked off their new season at their new home ground of Prenton Park tonight and enjoyed their first victory of the Barclays Premier Reserve League North season with a comfortable 3-1 win over Bolton Wanderers Reserves.

After losing their opening game of the season 3-2 at Blackburn Reserves last week, John McMahon recieved the perfect response from his young side.

The torrential rain during the first half made conditions difficult, McMahon made a number of changes to his starting line up. In came goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi, Darby kept his place at right back while Steven Irwin came in at left back. The central defence pairing saw Daniel Ayala and Chris Mavinga, who had a steady display on his Reserve team League debut after moving to Anfield from PSG earlier this summer. The midfield saw Amoo, Pacheco, Palsson and Bruna while Nathan Eccleston partnered Nikola Saric upfront.

Liverpool opened the scoring fifteen minutes into the first half after a great deflected free kick strike from Gerardo Bruna.

Liverpool doubled their lead on 54 minutes through Jordy Brouwer, just seconds after replacing Nikola Saric, Brouwer chased down a back pass and charging down the Boltons defenders attempted clearance, the ball deflected off Brouwer and into the net!

However, just five minutes later, Bolton equalised through a goalmouth scramble, Michael O’Halloran cut inside before unleashing a shot which was well saved by Gulacsi, Mavinga then cleared off the line but the rebound fell for Danny Ward, Wards shot was again superby saved by Gulacsi who parried the ball into the feet of Adam Blakeman who made no mistake firing the ball in from inside the six yard box.

Kacaniklic sealed the points on 80 minutes securing the three points for John McMahon’s men as they got life at their new Prenton Park home off to a winning start.
