Rafa rants at below par Reds

Manager Rafa Benitez has vented his anger following Liverpool’s disappointing performance during the 2-0 defeat to Fiorentina last night.

The Reds missed out on a Champions League record, having failed to score for the first time in 22 matches, but defensively problems were more apparent.

Rafa says he cannot remember us ever being that bad and criticised the player’s mentality in the first half. After the stunning 6-1 win over Hull, the traveling Reds fans were left scratching their heads on the journey home from Florence as to how their team could go from so good to so poor in the space of 72 hours!

Clearly unhappy at full-time, Rafa said “There were too many mistakes and problems. Our mentality in the first half was not right, we were bad all over the pitch.

“I cannot really recall a performance like that. We certainly will never be as bad again.”

With Javi Mascherano out injured, Lucas and Aurelio failed to get a hold of the midfield but Rafa says the whole team didn’t do their job, “They were on top of us all the time, we played badly and they were just better than us.

“I was not only disappointed with the challenging in midfield but all over the pitch.

“But they did not produce anything we did not expect. We had watched them, we knew about Jovetic, there was nothing new out there that surprised us but we still played badly.”

The Spaniard promised a different Liverpool when they travel to Stamford Bridge this weekend, “We now have Chelsea away at the weekend in an important Premier League game. I believe you will see a different Liverpool in that match, a totally different performance with a different mentality.”
