Aquilani makes Reds bow in Reserves win

Liverpool Reserves 2-0 Sunderland Reserves

Alberto Aquilani made his first appearance in a Liverpool shirt as the Reserves defeated Sunderland‘s second-string 2-0 at Prenton Park on Wednesday evening.

The Italian midfielder played the last 15 minutes after recovering from an ankle injury he had when he signed for the club in the summer.

Spanish forward Dani Pacheco put the Reds ahead with a stunning free-kick just before half time, bending the ball beautifully into the top corner.

And it was another set-piece which contrived the second goal for John McMahon’s side, Pacheco with the cross this time for left-back Robbie Threlfall to head in firmly off the post.

The win was the reserves’ fifth consecutive and was watched by a decent crowd and co-owner George Gillett, who is in town ahead of Sunday’s match with Man United.
