Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez face an anxious wait today as several of his players undergo medical tests to determine the extent of their injuries.

Captain Steven Gerrard was forced to make an early exit during the first half of last night’s 2-1 defeat to Lyon in the Champions League at Anfield.

The Reds midfielder had a reoccurrence of the groin strain he sustained whilst on international duty for England last week.

Fernando Torres is also currently sidelined with a knock picked up with Spain and Glen Johnson was forced to miss last night’s game also.

“I think it is the same problem. He felt something, so he knew it was better to come off,” said Benitez.

“We will have to check the players tomorrow. We have too many problems with different players and we won’t know more until we check tomorrow.”

However Benitez will be boosted by the news that £18million summer signing Alberto Aquilani’s showing major signs of improvement after his major ankle injury.

The Italian international midfielder could play for the Liverpool Reserves against Sunderland Reserves at Prenton Park this evening (kick-off 7pm).
