Liverpool have been linked with a January transfer window move for Vasco da Gama midfielder Nílton Ferreira Júnior.
The 22-year-old’s contract with the Brazilian 2nd Division side expires at the end of 2009 and reports suggest Rafa Benitez is keen on signing the former Brazil Under-20 player.
Nilton is a defensive midfielder but plays a more attacking game than fellow Brazilian Lucas Leiva – meaning he actually passes forward, honest – recently scoring a spectacular bicycle kick when Vasco lost 4-1 to Vila Nova.
He previously played for Corinthians in the top flight of Brazilian football, scoring twice in nine appearances.
Meanwhile, with the Reds linked with a move to bring Emile Heskey back to Anfield earlier in the week, the England international striker has played down the media hype.
He said, “After a game, you are faced with about 10 million questions,. Most of my replies were one-word answers, then I read headlines saying I’m going to quit Villa and things like that. It confused me a little.”
Liverpool have also recently been linked with Argentinian Benfica midfielder Angel Di Maria, Valencia striker David Villa and Stoke City defender Ryan Shawcross.
