The Argentine international will be in attendance at Anfield for the Reds’ third round FA Cup replay against Reading, hopefully having completed a £1.5m move from Atletico Madrid.

The 29 year old attacking winger is quoted in The Mirror, saying “The Premier League is incredible. I have played in some English stadiums and the atmosphere is unique. It is the closest thing to Argentina.”

He played at Anfield last season in fact, scoring Atletico’s goal in a 1-1 draw in the Champions League.

Maxi will join fellow Argentinian’s Javier Mascherano and Emiliano Insua in Rafa Benitez’s squad and should provide much needed competition for Dirk Kuyt’s position on the right of midfield.

He will also join up with former Atletico Madrid team-mate Fernando Torres, who once said of Maxi “He is the kind of player that is always up to the challenge. The more his team needs him, the more he offers. Maxi is hungry and when you have his hunger you can achieve anything.”
