Maxi makes Argies World Cup squad

Liverpool winger Maxi Rodriguez has been named in Argentina’s 23 man squad for the World Cup.

The 29 year old attacker arrived at Anfield in January and gradually impressed as the season progressed. He scored his first goal for the club against Burnley, making 17 appearances for the Reds.

He joins club team-mate and Argentina skipper Javier Mascherano alongside the likes of Leo Messi, Di Maria, Aguero and Hiquain. Coach Diego Maradona didn’t name the experienced Javier Zanetti even in the provisional squad and has just one full back in his final 23.

Liverpool left back Emiliano Insua failed to make the provisional squad either, having made his full debut for the South Americans last season.

Maxi and Masch will be one of 12 Liverpool players featuring at this summer’s World Cup in South Africa.

The rest are expected to be (not all squads are finalised): Glen Johnson, Jamie Carragher, Steven Gerrard (England), Pepe Reina, Fernando Torres (Spain), Dirk Kuyt, Ryan Babel (Holland), Daniel Agger (Denmark), Sotirios Kyrgiakos (Greece), Martin Skrtel (Slovakia).
