LFC News Round-Up

The World Cup is but a few days away, kicking off on Friday, and Fernando Torres returned to action in Spain’s 6-0 thrashing of Poland on Tuesday night.

The Spanish striker missed the last two months of Liverpool’s season and was expected to miss the start of the World Cup but has recovered faster than expected and made a scoring return, playing the last 25 minutes for the European Champions and one of the favourites for the World Cup.

imageIt was also confirmed on Tuesday evening that Rafa Benitez will be confirmed as the new Inter Milan manager, replacing Jose Mourinho, less than a week after leaving Liverpool. Full story here.

imageEarlier in the day, the club had announced a 7% increase in season ticket prices – despite the disappointments of last season and the possibility of star players following Benitez to exit Anfield this summer. Forum discussion here.

Liverpool also revealed the new away kit for the 2010/11 season – white shirt with red pin stripes and black shorts. The keeper shirt is purple! These designs have been doing the rounds in the forums for some time now. There’s no Torres in the promo pics… Pics here.

In other news, Harry Redknapp ruled himself out of the running for the vacant LFC manager’s position – doubts remain over whether we were ever interested in or if it was merely done to strengthen his bargaining position for a better contract at Spurs. Surely not ‘Arry.

Meanwhile, the normally reliable Kop Magazine wrote on Twitter that one of their sources “reckons Roy Hodgson has agreed to become the next Liverpool manager.” Watch this space.

And finally, in case you missed it and/or weren’t feeling depressed enough after reading all that, The Mirror reported that Tom Hicks remains the greedy t**t and has turned down two good offers for the club. Full story.
