Reds reject Chelsea’s Benayoun bid

Liverpool are reported to have rejected a £4m bid for midfielder Yossi Benayoun from Chelsea.

The Guardian reports that Liverpool have indicated an improved offer of around £6m would however be accepted.

Chelsea see the Israeli international as a replacement for out-of-contract Joe Cole, who has been linked with a move in the opposite direction.

Benayoun, 30, joined Liverpool from West Ham in 2006, and has made 134 appearances in all competitions, scoring 29 goals.

Last week the former West Ham player was quoted saying “Ancelotti wants me for next season and now everything depends on Liverpool. Chelsea will have to pay some £6m, but I believe that, in the end, I’ll be moving there.”

Cole, meanwhile, is also attracting interest from Champions League qualifiers Tottenham.
