The agent of Liverpool striker Fernando Torres has denied that he made quotes to the English press regarding the uncertainty of the player’s future at Anfield.
As reported earlier today, Jose Antonio Martin was quoted as saying that the 26-year-old was likely to stay in the Premier League from next season, but not necessarily at Anfield.
With both Manchester City and Chelsea thought to be interested and in a financial position to table a tempting offer for Torres, the quotes sparked another media frenzy of transfer speculation over the Spanish international.
But Martin has moved quickly to deny ever making the quotes.
He says, “For many months I have not spoken to the England press because their quotes are totally false.
“Now is not the moment to speak about this issue because Torres is focused completely on his work for Spain.
“After the World Cup Bahia Internacional (Torre’s management agency) will possibly meet with the player but the truth is that Fernando has signed a deal with Liverpool which is for the present and the future.”
Torres himself is still on international duty with Spain in South Africa and has a World Cup Semi-Final against Germany on Wednesday night.
