Mascherano staying at Liverpool?

Javier Mascherano could end up being a Liverpool player this coming season after all, with Inter Milan having yet sold Mario Balotelli to Manchester City – a deal which needs to be completed for the Italians to afford Mascherano’s price tag.

Mascherano returned to Anfield this summer from his international commitments with Argentina to tell Roy Hodgson that he wished to move to Inter.

But wage demands from Balotelli to Man City – reported to be around £180,000 – seem to have put both deals on hold for the time being.

Liverpool are thought to be seeking around £25million for Mascherano, who would link back up with former Reds boss Rafa Benitez at the San Siro.

Inter president Massimo Maratti confirmed, “At this moment, we’re unable to make any transfers of this magnitude.

“We can’t make any big transfers until we’ve sold someone.

“We’re happy with the youngsters. So we can stay calm. Mascherano for 30 million euros? It’s not possible at this price because we haven’t sold anyone.“

Mascherano has also been linked with a move to Barcelona, but the Catalan giants are going through a period of somewhat financial difficulty at the moment.

The transfer window closes on August 31st.
