International Reds on target

Friday night saw several Liverpool players in action for their countries in Euro 2012 qualifiers.

Steven Gerrard captained England as they defeated Bulgaria 4-0 at Wembley. Spurs forward Jermaine Defoe scored a hat-trick, with Man City winger Adam Johnson also on the scoresheet. Both Gerrard and club-mate Glen Johnson played the full 90 minutes.

Meanwhile, Fernando Torres scored two stunning goals for Spain against Liechtenstein as they also won 4-0. Torres’ first was a sublime chip over the keeper from an angle in the box. He was subbed just before the hour so a succesful night for the Reds record signing.

Another Red on target was Dirk Kuyt, he opened the scoring for Holland in their 5-0 thrashing of San Marino. Kuyt scoring from the penalty spot early on before Klaas Jan Huntelaar grabbed a hat-trick.

New signing Raul Meireles was also on the scoresheet, scoring for Portugal in their 4-4 draw against Cyprus.
