Next Up: Northampton Town (h)

Liverpool turn their attentions away from their dismal start to the Premier League season and have a Carling Cup third round tie at home to Northampton Town to look forward to this Wednesday night.

League Two side Northampton got one of the scalps of the second round of the tournament, beating Reading on penalties to set up the tie at Anfield.

The two sides haven’t met since 1966, and this could be used as a chance for Roy Hodgson to give some of his fringe squad players a chance to prove their worth.

Liverpool fans will be hoping to see the likes of Dani Pacheco get a run out. While youngsters Martin Kelly and Jay Spearing are also likely to start. Other fringe players Lucas and Ryan Babel will be hoping to start.

Goalkeeper Brad Jones could make his debut.
