Reds hopeful on Ngog injury

Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson is hopeful striker David Ngog will be fit to face Birmingham City in the Premier League this Sunday.

The Reds travel to St Andrews hoping to claim their second league victory of the season, but Ngog is struggling with a hamstring injury.

Hodgson said today, “He has been nursing a problem but is much better now. We were obliged to withdraw him from the French U21 squad because when they got together 10 days ago he wasn’t fit.

“The French people were very good about that and realised there was a problem. I am hoping that he will recover in time for this weekend. We have nursed him through and hopefully he will train either today or Friday.”

Liverpool could be without Fabio Aurelio, who is struggling with an achilles problem. Hodgson added, “Fabio is making very good progress and is definitely moving in the right direction. It was a relatively minor problem but one we had to nip in the bud because achilles injuries can be very problematic.”

Birmingham City vs Liverpool gets underway at 4pm this Sunday, 12th September 2010.
