Liverpool have been linked with a January transfer window move for Brazilian forward Ronaldinho, and Lucas Leiva says he’d very much welcome the AC Milan striker to Anfield.
Media sources in Italy suggest Roy Hodgson may be tempted to move for the 30-year-old, who has dropped down in the pecking order at the San Siro and is struggling to get regular first team footballer.
Rumours suggest the former World Player of the Year is looking for a move back to Brazil, or to America’s MLS, but could be tempted by a shot at the Premier League before he leaves Europe.
Lucas told Brazilian website, Globoesporte, “I’m not aware of anything regarding a possible signing of Ronaldinho, but of course I’d be very happy if it were to happen.
“We became friends during the time we shared at the Beijing Olympics and with the national team. It would be great to play with him at Liverpool.
“Everyone knows Ronaldinho’s quality and what he can do. Without doubt it would be a great boost for us.”
Lucas added that he is happy with his regular first team football this season, which has seen him produce a number of positive performances and win some of his doubters over.
“I’m pleased to have my work recognised in this way at Liverpool,” he continued. “It shows that I have put in some good performances for the club.
“I’d already been voted young player of the year by fans last season. Receiving a positive response for what I do on the pitch is always rewarding.
“I’ll dedicated myself to keeping things that way for Liverpool and Brazil, where things are also going well for me.”
