Liverpool reject Chelsea’s £40m bid for Torres

Liverpool have turned down an offer in the region of £40million for Fernando Torres from Chelsea.

A simple statement from the club late on Thursday night confirmed, “Chelsea have made an offer for Fernando, which has been rejected. The player is not for sale.”

Chelsea are looking for a new big name striker and their attentions have turned to Torres after having a bid for Atletico Madrid striker Sergio Aguero turned own earlier this week.

It was also reported tonight that winger Milan Jovanovic turned down a move to German side Wolfsberg today.

The January transfer window closes on Monday night, so expect a frantic few days of speculation, rumours and bull. The Reds are still thought to be hopeful of bringing Ajax striker Luis Suarez and Blackpool midfielder Charlie Adam to Anfield.
