Spearing returns to action after injury

Jay Spearing will start for Liverpool Reserves today against Sunderland Reserves, making his return from injury.

The 22-year-old injured his ankle in November but will today line-up for the Reserves alongside Nikola Saric, who also returns from injury after breaking his leg in September.

With Kenny Dalglish now in charge of first team matters, there’s a number of players who will be looking to impress the new boss – much hyped youngster Suso also starts.

Thomas Ince and Stephen Darby are back after loan spells at Notts County.

Jason Banton, an 18 year old striker who was recently released by Blackburn, is on the bench – he is currently on trial at the club. He joined Rovers from Arsenal 2 years ago.

The game takes place at Liverpool’s Academy at 1pm.
