Comolli talks transfer strategy

Liverpool signaled their intentions with the acquisition of Jordan Henderson from Sunderland in the early stages of the transfer window and the spending is expected to continue through the summer.

Director of football Damien Comolli explained “We wanted to make a signing early.”

“The earlier the better because we can then re-adjust our strategy or decide we aren’t going to do any more – which won’t be the case now!” Comolli told the club’s website.

“I’m very pleased, because Jordan was one of the big targets we had. When you get your first target it’s always a good sign because you think the others will come through as well.”

With the Reds targeting young and British talents, Comolli explained that is a strategy the club are actively pursuing. “If a player is English, or British or has played in the Premier League, we’ll look at that over someone abroad,” confirmed Comolli.

The Reds are believed to be in talks with a number of other targets including Ipswich striker Connor Whickham, Blackpool midfielder Charlie Adam and Aston Villa midfielder Stewart Downing. Deals for Whickham and Adam are reported to be very close to completion and will be done once the players return from international duty and holiday respectively.
