Adam welcomes Gerrard return

Club captain Steven Gerrard returns to the Liverpool squad for the first time since March in tonight’s Carling Cup tie with Championship side Brighton.

Whether Gerrard will start is unclear as yet, but his return to fitness comes on the back of the disappointing defeat to Tottenham on Sunday.

Despite being in direct competition for a spot in midfield, Charlie Adam has welcomed the skipper’s return.

“I know it will be difficult for me personally when Stevie comes back, because he’ll want to play the same as everyone else, but he’s such a top player [that] you have to look forward to seeing him return,” said the Scot.

“Honestly, every time someone here even mentions his name they smile, because they know how good he is. Every team wants their best players back in the starting 11. I’m really looking forward to seeing him.”

Adam, along with Martin Skrtel, is suspended for the Brighton match.
