Comolli praises ‘complete’ squad

LFC director of football Damien Comolli believes Liverpool’s squad is ‘complete’ and that the aim is to give the new arrivals in the past year time to develop before making more signings.

“I would really struggle to say we need something because I think we have such a complete squad at the moment,” explained the Frenchman.

Comolli has overseen the arrivals of Suarez, Carroll, Adam, Downing, Henderson, Doni, Enrique, Coates and Bellamy in the past 9 months, under the ownership of FSG.

With all those players except free signings Bellamy and Doni being under 27 years of age, the club is clearly building for the future. “It’s not a work for one season, it’s a work for two, three, four seasons, especially when you are investing in young players, as we have done.”

“We want to see how we’re going to do [with these players].

“We are very pleased with what we’ve done during this window and the previous one as well. For me, it’s like a big window from January until 31 August and, in total, we brought in nine players.

“We changed the team and changed the squad, so it’s the time to reflect.

“Let’s see how those players develop, how they gel together, how young players like Sebastian Coates adapt.”

Liverpool face Tottenham away on Sunday.
