Spurs 4-0 Liverpool

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR 4 (1) LIVERPOOL 0 (0)
Premier League, Sunday 18th September 2011 (1.30 PM)

Liverpool suffered their second successive defeat in disastrous fashion. Conceding four and finishing the game with nine men after the dismissals of Charlie Adam and Martin Skrtel, both for two yellow cards. Add in an injury to Daniel Agger and it was not a good day for the Reds.

Kenny Dalglish‘s side were sluggish and deserved little from the game.

Luka Modric’s superb curling effort gave the home side the lead within the opening ten minutes. And before the half-hour mark Adam was given his marching orders for a second, pretty horrendous, foul on Scott Parker. Leaving Liverpool to play most the game with ten men.

Ten would become nine when Skrtel picked his second yellow for a foul on Gareth Bale. Skrtel, playing out of position at right back in the absence of Glen Johnson and Martin Kelly, was completely undone by the Welsh winger on several occasions. Failing to even put Dirk Kuyt on the right side of midfield to offer the Slovak some sort of cover may well be something fans will point to for this defeat.

Once down to nine, Spurs picked up three more goals. Defoe finished well when through one-on-one against Enrique, Reina uncharacteristically spilled to allow Adebayor to finish and he added another with the last kick of the game.

Next up is League Cup and Brighton away on Wednesday.
