Rangers 1-0 Liverpool

Glasgow Rangers defeated Liverpool 1-0 at Ibrox in a mid-season friendly on Tuesday night.

With neither side in European action this season, they took the opportunity to play each other and give some of their fringe players a competitive fixture.

Kenny Dalglish rested key players Luis Suarez, Steven Gerrard, Pepe Reina and Jamie Carragher, while giving the likes of Jay Spearing, Maxi Rodriguez and Craig Bellamy a game.

It also saw Alexander Doni, the Brazilian goalkeeper, and Sebastien Coates, the Uruguayan defender, make their Liverpool debuts. While Danny Wilson and Charlie Adam returned to face their former club.

Doni was one of the Reds’ more impressive performers, until he suffered a dislocated finger and was replaced by young Martin Hansen in goal.

Daniel Agger and Glen Johnson returned from injury ahead of Saturday’s home match with Norwich City.

Rangers’ Lee McCulloch scored the only goal of the game with 20 minutes on the clock, turning home a loose ball from close range after the Reds had failed to deal with a corner.

Liverpool: Doni (Hansen 57), Johnson (Flanagan 66), Wilson (Enrique 78), Coates, Agger (Skrtel 78), Spearing, Lucas (Adam 66), Maxi (Henderson 78), Aurelio (Kuyt 65), Carroll , Bellamy (Downing 66).
Not used: Reina.
