Jones: I’m part of the biggest family in the world

Liverpool 2-1 Everton – Post Match Reaction

A round-up of the post-match quotes after today’s 2-1 FA Cup semi-final victory over Everton.

Some superb quotes from Brad Jones.

The managers

Kenny Dalglish

“I think we are very proud. It’s ok for us to be happy and delighted but I think in years gone by the people who have supported both clubs have conducted themselves in great dignity and they have done that again today.

“It was a very difficult game and I’m sure the neutral would have enjoyed it. It was a great day for us and everyone at the club. Luis Suarez is s fantastic footballer, end of story, and Big Andy gets the winner. Everybody has been battered and maybe that’s what we need!!”

David Moyes

“I’m really disappointed not to get through. We started the game well and thought we had weathered them in second half but you can’t hide the fact we gave away two terrible goals.

“We’d done well in the game and we were coping. If you make mistakes it doesn’t win you trophies. I’m really sorry and disappointed for the fans.”

The players

Andy Carroll

“It’s the best feeling ever. We worked hard and getting a goal at the end was great. I had a few chances and I probably should have scored earlier but I kept going. I’ve had some criticism but I have kept going. I believe in myself every day.”

Steven Gerrard

“It was very tough. Everton played very well, they are a good side with a good manager. But we were superb in the second half and we showed great character. Certain players have had a lot of criticism this week but they stood up today. We bought Andy Carroll to score big goals and he has delivered today.”

Jamie Carragher:

“He [Carroll] will be remembered forever. That goal is worth £35m alone for me and I wouldn’t swap Luis Suarez for any other player.”

Brad Jones

“I might not play in the FA Cup final, but I’m just proud to be a part of it”

“I’m not the most important player here but they are the biggest family in the world.”

“Think people know that’s for Luca, that’s for my boy. He was on my mind throughout the game. He was my biggest fan.”

Pundits

Lee Dixon (5Live)

“First half, Liverpool were poor and Everton deserved to be leading 1-0. But in the second half Liverpool put their opponents under a lot of pressure, Carroll scored the winner, and on the balance of play you have to say Liverpool deserve the win. They go on to the final.”

“Overall Liverpool created more chances and were the better side, for sure. But Everton missed an opportunity; the got a little bit nervous and tried to sit back and hold onto what they had. Carroll will be pleased, and he has a big smile on his face. The pressure has lifted off him, and he’ll get to experience something that very few professional footballers do: an FA Cup final.”

Phil McNulty (BBC)

“Liverpool deserved it on their strength of the second half performance. Consoling pat on the back for the disconsolate Sylvain Distin from David Moyes. Distin must be on the floor after that game-changing error.”

“Liverpool deserved winners on the strength of their second half comeback. Kenny Dalglish may have had his problems in the Premier League but he can now add an FA Cup Final appearance to that Carling Cup victory.”

The hoodoo goes on. The last time #LFC lost a major semi-final/final to #EFC was way back in 1906.
