Rodgers’ first Liverpool team in draw in Toronto

Brendan Rodgers’ first Liverpool team salvaged a 1-1 draw in a pre-season friendly in the Canadian heat in Toronto on Saturday.

The starting line-up saw a return to action for Alberto Aquilani, who spent last season on loan in Italy, and Charlie Adam, who missed the end of the season through injury.

Jamie Carragher captained a relatively young side, which saw the welcome return of midfielder Lucas Leiva as a substitute during the second half.

Sloppy Reds defending let in Toronto for the opener shortly into the second half when Quincy Amarikwa got on the scoresheet, only for young Reds striker Adam Morgan to claim his first first team goal after great work by Raheem Sterling.

There were bright games also for Joe Cole, Nathan Eccleston and Dani Pacheco.

As usual, all pre-season friendlies should be taken with a pinch of salt as Rodgers begins to welcome back Liverpool’s Euro 2012 stars to training this wek.

The next game sees the Reds take on Roma at Boston Red Sox’s Fenway Park on Wednesday night at 11.30pm BST (UK).
