Wednesday’s LFC transfer rumours: Liverpool begin move for Adam Johnson

Liverpool have begun talks to bring Manchester City winger Adam Johnson to Anfield on a permanent deal, according to ESPN.

ESPN report that both the Reds and Tottenham, who are interested in every Liverpool target and don’t do any scouting themselves, “have approached Man City” about the England international.

The Reds also face competition from Sunderland, who recently put forward a £10million bid for the 25-year-old.

Reports suggest that City are keen for a quick sale of Johnson, so they can up their pursuit of the purchase of Swansea’s Scott Sinclair.

Johnson has made 39 appearances for Man City since signing from Middlesbrough in January 2010.

Meanwhile, with the transfer window slowly creaking shut, several of this morning’s newspapers, including the Daily Telegraphy suggest the Reds are ready to cut their losses with Andy Carroll.

Carroll started on the bench for Liverpool during their first Premier League game of the season at West Brom on Saturday and a return to boyhood heroes Newcastle Utd could still be on the cards.

Newcastle may stand firm and offer just £12million for the England striker, a full £22million down on his price tag when Liverpool signed him from the North East club last January.
