Several media outlets are today reporting that Suarez has said he is open to leaving the club this summer.

However, the media failed to also spot his quotes discussing how he is looking forward to next season with the club.

Media frenzy ensues and Ayre was on BBC Breakfast this morning to clear up the rumours.

When asked whether he was 100% confident of keeping Suarez at Liverpool, Ayre told the presenter, “Yes, absolutely.”

Ayre went on to suggest Suarez’s comments “may have been lost in translation”.

The original interview was conducted in Uruguay, where Suarez is currently preparing for this weekend’s international games for his country.

Ayre added, “He has a four-year contract. We hope he will see it through.

“We have no desire to sell Luis. He is a fantastic player and a great contributor to our team,” he said.

“We have been honest with him and he has been honest with us and there will always be instances, particularly leading up to the summer, where people are quoted or asked these questions, but we are very pleased to have Luis and long may that continue.

“Every player will be approached by clubs because that is the nature of the game and every player has a choice.”

Suarez has scored 29 goals so far this season in all competitions and 50 goals in the 92 games he has played for the club since signing in January 2011 from Ajax.
