Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to welcome new goalkeeper Simon Mignolet to Anfield.
The Belgian international was confirmed as the Reds’ fourth signing of the summer last night, following the acquisitions of Kolo Toure, Luis Alberto and Iago Aspas.
However, the signing of Mignolet raises question marks over the future of Pepe Reina at Anfield. What role does the Spaniard have in Brendan Rodgers’ immediate plans?
Judging by Mignolet’s comments on his arrival at Liverpool, he is expecting to compete with Reina, and Brad Jones, to be the Reds’ number one choice between the posts.
“Competition can only be a good thing,” Mignolet told the club’s official website. “I’ve been in big competitions wherever I’ve been – in Belgium with the national team and in Sunderland with Craig Gordon and Keiren Westwood, who are international goalies. Now it’s the same again with Pepe and with Brad.
“It’s only a good thing – to be competitive and to train as hard as you can, it can only bring the best out of you.
“Pepe is an experienced goalkeeper who has proven a lot over the years. I’m looking forward to working with him, the same as I am with Brad and the goalie coach.
“It’s a challenge but that’s what you want. You want to play in the big games, you want to play for a big club and to play with pressure.
“I’m very confident in myself and I can’t wait to get the first clean sheet under my belt.
“I’ve never been a nervous person. I’m quite confident in my own abilities.”
Here are just a few of the reactions of people on Twitter to Mignolet’s arrival:

Mignolet a decent buy for Liverpool. Was impressed by him last season.

If, as Rodgers says, Simon Mignolet ends up competing with Pepe Reina, that is a top-class goalkeeping rivalry at Liverpool. #bbcfootball

Reina is the best LFC keeper I've seen in my lifetime but I wouldn't mind Mignolet being first choice, easily one of Prem's top keepers.
