Report: Liverpool move for Barcelona’s David Villa

Saturday’s LFC Transfer Rumours

The Luis Suarez hoo-hah that has circulated every sports newsroom on the continent this week should get a break this weekend, with the Uruguayan in action for his country against France.

It doesn’t stop the rumour mill from continuing to churn though and this morning the Mirror report that Liverpool are taking an interest in Barcelona striker David Villa.

Villa has fallen out of favour at the Nou Camp, three years after signing on a lucrative contract and €40million transfer fee from Valencia.

Now 31, Villa’s first team starting opportunities have been shortcoming this season, with La Liga set to conclude this weekend (yes, we know, it’s June, it’s madness!).

The Mirror report on his future this morning:

David Villa is definitely coming to the Premier League this summer, and Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool are all in for the Barcelona striker.

The paper believe he would be available for around £12million, but unless he chooses to take a big pay-cut, Liverpool and Arsenal may struggle to meet his demands.

The Guardian also pick up this story linking Villa with Merseyside and North London, as well as suggesting that “while in Spain, Brendan Rodgers will also make off with the Sevilla duo Jesus Navas and the young midfield prospect Luis Alberto”.

Villa has played 76 times for Barcelona since 2010, scoring 32 times.

Back in 2009, Fernando Torres wanted Villa to join him at Liverpool. Oh how times change.

Villa has been capped 88 times for Spain, scoring a staggering 53 international goals, winning the World Cup in 2010 and the European Championships in 2010.
