New Liverpool signings Kolo Toure and Simon Mignolet were on hand to talk to press at Melwood today (Wednesday), ahead of this weekend’s first pre-season friendly of the summer for the Reds, away at Preston.
Toure was asked about replacing Jamie Carragher:
“It is an honour to play for Liverpool. This club is unbelievable. I’ve been here for two weeks and I’ve seen a lot of fantastic things.
“My experience will of course be important. I know Jamie Carragher was a really important player for this club and he has retired now. I think Liverpool look for somebody who can replace him. He was a big player for us.
“To replace Jamie Carragher is unbelievable. He was a fantastic player for England and this football club, a great leader. I will do my best.”
Mignolet was asked about his situation with Pepe Reina remaining at the club, replying professionally but keeping his cards close to his chest.
Both Toure and Mignolet, along with fellow newboys Iago Aspas and Luis Alberto are expected to take part in Saturday’s pre-season opener at Deepdale.
