Liverpool will go top of the Premier League with a win today, ahead of Arsenal, who face third place Southampton at 3pm. A win for Everton, however, would take them level on points with the second-place Reds.

Sturridge has been struggling with a thigh injury for several weeks and against Everton, Rodgers has opted to go with Luis Suarez up front, supported by Philippe Coutinho.

Welsh international Joe Allen starts in midfield for the first time this season, alongside Jordan Henderson and Lucas Leiva.

Captain Steven Gerard starts in midfield for Liverpool, despite injury concerns earlier in the week that forced him to have painkilling injections to play for England against Germany at Wembley.

Liverpool: Mignolet, Johnson, Flanagan, Agger, Skrtel, Lucas, Gerrard, Allen, Henderson, Coutinho, Suarez.

Substitutes: Jones, Toure, Alberto, Moses, Sturridge, Sakho, Sterling.

Everton: Howard, Baines, Distin, Jagielka (c), Coleman, Barry, McCarthy, Pienaar, Barkley, Mirallas, Lukaku.
