German forward Samed Yesil has been ruled out for the rest of the season after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) shortly after nine months out with the same injury.
The highly-rated 19-year-old arrived from Bayer Leverkusen 18 months ago for £1 million and made two appearances for the Reds in the League Cup during Liverpool’s striker shortage at the start of last season.
He returned from injury in October and marked his first under 21s start with a goal against Aston Villa in December.
Yesil then suffered the injury to the same knee in training.
Under 21s coach Alex Inglethorpe confirmed the news to The Liverpool Echo.
“Unfortunately Samed has suffered a reoccurrence of his knee injury,” Inglethorpe explained.
“It’s a horrible situation for him. He had only just recovered from the previous injury.”
Best of luck Samed.
