BrendanRodgers’ side were knocked off top spot over the weekend following Manchester City’s 3-2 victory over Everton at Goodison Park.

A draw would be enough to move Liverpool top again tonight, but Man City host Aston Villa on Wednesday night in their penultimate game of the season.

Sturridge had missed a starting place in Liverpool’s last two games due to a hamstring injury picked up in last month’s 3-2 win over Man City, but returns to the starting XI tonight.

Mamadou Sakho continues to partner Martin Skrtel in central defence, whilst Lucas and Joe Allen support Steven Gerrard in midfield.

Daniel Sturridge continues to struggle with fitness following his hamstring injury, and midfielder Jordan Henderson serves the final game of his three match suspension.

Prior to the game, Rodgers explained his selection, telling Sky Sports, “Philippe Coutinho has a slight problem, he’s not fully fit and we couldn’t risk starting him tonight so Daniel [Sturridge] comes in.

“Coutinho is on the bench, hopefully he can make an impact from there later.”
