Liverpool are again linked with Cardiff City captain Steven Caulker, with ESPN claiming the 22-year-old is expected to leave the relegated side.

ESPN write that Caulker is “among several potential transfer targets identified by Rodgers and his recruitment team.”

Caulker is a player who has worked with Brendan Rodgers before having been on loan at Swansea City during Rodgers’ time at the Welsh side.

The 22-year-old signed for Cardiff last summer for £8 million from Tottenham last summer, with Rodgers at the time reported to be interested in signing the player but Spurs refused to sell to a rival.

After conceding 50 goals, more than any side in the top five this season, Liverpool will be linked with several defensive reinforcements this summer and Caulker appears to be one of those on the shortlist.

Caulker’s age and potentially good price due to Cardiff’s relegation make him very much the type of signing that Rodgers and FSG desire.

Meanwhile, numerous suggest Liverpool will complete a move for Southampton midfielder Adam Lallana this week.
