Liverpool take full-strength 33-man squad on USA tour

Brendan Rodgers will be taking a 33-man squad to the USA for Liverpool’s pre-season tour this summer, it was announced on Thursday.

Having started their pre-season campaign with an under-strength squad in a 2-1 defeat at Brondby on Wednesday night, the Reds are looking forward to continuing preparations for the new campaign stateside.

Following a friendly clash against Preston North End at Deepdale this Saturday (3pm BST kick-off), Liverpool jet out to Boston, home of the club’s owners Fenway Sports Group.

Confirmed friendlies to take place in the USA are:

  • 23 July – AS Roma (Fenway Park, Boston) – 5pm CST
  • 27 July – Olympiacos (Soldier Field, Chicago)– 5pm CST
  • 2 August – AC Milan (Charlotte, North Carolina) – 6:30pm EST

In Rodgers’ squad, Liverpool’s World Cup stars return from their extended holiday, as well as new signings Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana, Emre Can and Lazar Markovic.

It also includes Pepe Reina, who returns from a season on-loan at Napoli and Sebastian Coates, who has been in Uruguay since January.

Liverpool squad for USA tour: Agger, Allen, Borini, Can, Coady, Coates, Coutinho, Enrique, Flanagan, Gerrard, Henderson, Ibe, Ilori, Johnson, Jones, Kelly, Lallana, Lambert, Leiva, Markovic, Mignolet, Phillips, Reina, Robinson, Sakho, Skrtel, Sterling, Sturridge, Suso, Teixeira, Toure, Ward and Wisdom.

Jose Enrique and Jack Robinson were missing from the squad that travelled to Denmark for the Brondby game this week, but are included in the USA tour squad.

A statement from Liverpool clarifies:

The Reds will depart from John Lennon airport in Liverpool on Sunday afternoon (20 July).

The squad, led by captain Steven Gerrard, will include new signings Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana, Emre Can and Lazar Markovic.

They’ll later be joined by France’s captain Mamadou Sakho and Belgian goalkeeper Simon Mignolet.

Earlier on Thursday, BT Sport confirmed they will be showing Liverpool’s clash against Roma at Fenway Park on the 23rd July, as well as Saturday’s game at Preston and the friendly against Borussia Dortmund at Anfield on August 10th.
