Liverpool fans react to abject performance in Newcastle defeat

Liverpool lost 1-0 at Newcastle on Saturday lunchtime, failing to score for a second consecutive Premier League and looking pretty terrible in defence, as ever this season.

There were many major concerns; an absolute lack of attacking spark, with no shots on target in the first half; Brendan Rodgers’ persistence with the 4-2-3-1 formation that isn’t working; the use of Raheem Sterling, wasted out wide; isolating Mario Balotelli up front for long periods.

That’s without mentioning the dire defending of Glen Johnson and Dejan Lovren, both hugely at fault for the goal before Alberto Moreno‘s mistake six yards out from his own goal.

It was an extremely poor display and with Real Madrid and Chelsea up next, it could be a very long week for Liverpool fans.

We round up reactions from fans and media after the defeat.

Many focussed on the defending of Lovren:

And Johnson:

While others looked at the bigger picture and concerns that things are far from improving but actually going backwards:

The pressure is certainly mounting for Rodgers.
