Report: Liverpool offer Glen Johnson new £60k/week deal

Liverpool have, reportedly, offered full-back Glen Johnson a new deal to remain at the club – on half his current wages.

The 30-year-old is out of contract next summer and widely expected to leave the club, having not been offered a new deal until now.

The Mirror claim Johnson “is currently on £120,000-a-week but, having lost his England place after suffering a loss of form and injuries, he is being asked to HALVE his money on a £60K per week, two-year deal.”

Johnson has been linked with a move to Italy most recently, with AS Roma said to be interested in the former Chelsea and Portsmouth right-back.

One of the most consistently below-par players at Anfield over the last two seasons, it would be a surprise to see Johnson remain at the club, even if it were on reduced terms.

Brendan Rodgers brought in Javier Manquillo on an initial loan deal in the summer, and has local lad Jon Flanagan returning from injury later next month. Both would be better options than Johnson.
