Another day, another handful of Liverpool transfer rumour goodness (badness). And today’s roundup counts as four of your five-a-day.
First up, John “Boom!” Cross of the Mirror says Edin Dzeko has rejected the opportunity to join Liverpool as part of a deal that would see Raheem Sterling join Manchester City.
All signs over Sterling’s potential departure from Anfield this summer point to City, but if Dzeko is not to be part of that deal, City will have to make a cash-only renewed offer after seeing a £25 million bid turned down last week.
Meanwhile, Liverpool “appear to be at the front of the queue” for Hoffenheim midfielder Roberto Firmino, again according to Wednesday’s Mirror.
Who knows where the aforementioned queue is, but it appears to have been conveniently formed after comments by Firmino’s agent, Roger Wittmann, to Bild this week:
All I can say is that he’s moving to England.
Short and sweet.
Okay my toast’s just popped up, let’s move onto Gomez.
As well as being an indie rock band from Southport, Gomez is also Joe Gomez, the 18-year-old Charlton Athletic starlet you may have read about this week.
The Liverpool Echo‘s Neil Jones says a deal, closer to £6 million than the initially reported £3.5 million, “is expected to be finalised in the coming days”.
Gomez’s arrival is being funded, at least in part, by the imminent departure of Sebastian Coates, who the Express claimed on Monday is set to seal a £3.5 million switch to Sunderland. Just leaving this here…
And one final rumour for good measure… former Liverpool winger Ryan Babel could soon be getting into his helicopter and making his way back to the Premier League. He’s been linked with Swansea City.
